Police Make Arrest in WestConn Fatal Crash

Danbury police have made an arrest in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a student from Western Connecticut State University in November.

Police have charged Eugene Robinson, 22, of New Britain. He voluntarily turned himself in on Friday morning after learning there was a warrant for his arrest, police said.  Robinson is a senior at WestConn.

Dong Lin, of Brookfield, was crossing White Street, near Hoffman Fuels, close to the White Street campus, around 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 22 when he was hit by a car, according to a statement from the school.

The driver fled, according to WSCU President James Schmotter. Witnesses said the vehicle was a dark-colored, boxy car.

"This arrest does not lessen the tragedy of our loss, and in fact adds to the sorrow on campus as we cope with the fact that a fellow student has been implicated," Schmotter said.

Lin, a nonmatriculated commuter student who was enrolled in three entry-level classes, died at Danbury Hospital.

After the crash, the school increased its police presence and Danbury police installed a "speed sled."

Robinson, who was described as distraught by his attorney, was charged with evading responsibility.  A judge lowered the bond for Robinson to $10,000.

Robinson's attorney said his client has cooperated with police, and called authorities two days after the accident to report that he was involved.  Robinson is the father of three, including 1-year-old twins. 

He is scheduled to be back in court Feb. 15.
