Man Distracted by Low-Flying Hawk Crashed, Knocking Out Power in East Haddam

Emergency crews responded to Beebe Road in East Haddam at around 9 a.m. Saturday after a man who was distracted by a low-flying hawk flipped his car over, according to state police.

The 59-year-old East Haddam man veered off the road while watching the hawk and clipped a utility pole and rolled over, police said.

The man was trapped and responding firefighters were fearful as there were downed wires around the car.

However, the man was eventually able to get out of the car under his own power and was sent to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries police said.
