Police Respond to 2 Shooting Scenes in Hartford

Hartford police are investigating after three people were shot in two separate incidents Wednesday evening.

Both incidents occurred within minutes of each other around 6 p.m., according to police.

The first incident occurred outside a market and pizza shop near 298 Farmington Avenue. Two men were injured. Police closed Farmington Avenue near Marshall Street for several hours to investigate.

Tammy Mendes of Hartford says her nephew was one of the victims. She says he was being robbed when he was shot in the chest.

“It’s tough,” she said. “We’re just praying that he will be okay.”

Some in the neighborhood were rattled by the latest shooting, which follows a year of violence and spike in homicides over the summer.

“It’s crazy. It’s ridiculous. It never stops. We need to get these people who are committing these crimes need to get where they belong and off the streets,” says resident Jessica Martins.

The second shooting happened about two miles north in the area of 98 Martin Street. One person was shot there, police said.

All of the victims are expected to survive, according to police. There is no word on whether the incidents are connected.

The Hartford Major Crimes division and Shooting Task Force are investigating. Anyone with information should contact Hartford police.
