Police Seek Man Suspected of Stealing Identity to Open Verizon Account

Watertown police are looking for the public's help in identifying a man suspected of stealing someone's identity to set up a cellphone service account and bill the victim for a phone purchase, police said.

The man was last seen on Target video surveillance footage on April 24 at about 5:19 p.m. at the 2065 Main Street location in Trumbull, police said.

He fraudulently opened up a Verizon Wireless account under the victim's name and had an $899 iPhone 6 Gold with 128 gigabytes-worth of data billed to the person whose identity he stole, police said.

The suspected identity thief was described as a man of medium build in his early to mid 30s with short hair, a beard an a mustache, police said. The Target surveillance video shows a man wearing a black "bomber" style jacket, a white shirt, dark pants and black sneakers, according to police.

Watertown police ask anyone with information to call the department at 860-945-5200 or Crimestoppers at 860-945-9940. Tips will remain confidential.
