Police Subdue Homeless Shoplifter With Pepper Spray: PD

Willimantic police arrested a homeless man late Sunday night after they say he pushed past a security guard while shoplifting at Stop and Shop and prompted a police officer to pepper spray him, police said.

Arnold Seaver, 46,  stole $41-worth of products from the grocery store and police apprehended him after he "pushed his way through a security guard" on his way out, police said. The police officer who caught him had to use pepper spray to subdue him.

There were no injuries.

Police charged Seaver with breach of peace, third-degree robbery, interfering with an officer and sixth-degree larceny.

Police held him in custody on a $25,000 bond and he is scheduled to appear in Danielson Superior Court on Monday.
