Police Want to Question Victim's Ex-Husband

Madison Police are looking for the ex-husband of Barbara Hamburg, who was found murdered outside her Madison home Wednesday, Chief Jack Drumm said.

Jeffrey Hamburg is not being called a suspect, or a person of interest, but is wanted for questioning in connection with his ex-wife's death, police said in a Friday evening news conference.

Barbara Beach Hamburg, 48, was found just before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the yard of the house at 44 Middle Beach Road West that she was renting.  She had been beaten and stabbed to death.

Jeffrey Hamburg is believed to be driving a black or gold Toyota Camry with a New York license plate, according to police.

NBC Connecticut spoke to Hamburg's attorney, Hugh Keefe, Friday night.  Keefe said has been in contact with his client, and was surprised police were searching for Hamburg.

Hamburg's grieving family said they appreciate the professionalism the local and state police have showed as they investigate the tragic slaying. They have asked that their privacy be respected.

Barbara and Jeffrey Hamburg had been divorced for several years and a source told NBC Connecticut that they were scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday morning. Jeffrey Hamburg appeared but she did not, the source said.
