Pounds lost meant a big gain for food banks.

A group of dieters in Plymouth area have decided to take their weight loss and use it to help others.

Each person is donating nonperishable food, equal to the weight he or she lost, to Lake Winfield. The amount of food donated depends on how many pounds they lost. It will be distributed to five area food pantries to help residents in Plymouth, Bristol, Thomaston, Watertown and Waterbury, the Bristol Press reports.

The dieters all took part in a weekly weight-loss group Kari Nizzardo ran in Bristol.

So far, the 120 people have donated more than 2,300 pounds of food.
