Three-quarters of UConn’s campus in Storrs had no power for more than three hours on Thursday.
The power went out around 10 a.m. and was restored just after 1:30 p.m.
Power was out to most buildings along Route 195 and North Eagleville Road, as well as central areas of campus, according to UConn’s Facebook page. The problem affected academic and administrative buildings, as well as dorms.
School officials said a "sleeve," which is just two wires bundled together, came down, knocking out a major circuit on campus.
The university sent text messages to students, faculty and staff about the outages and posted the warning on Twitter, in addition to Facebook.
Students were told to check with professors about whether their classes are being held, but many students who NBC Connecticut spoke with said they had classes because the buildings have generators.
