Connecticut's Attorney General wants to make sure you're not getting overcharged for seasonal flu shots

If you're trying to get a flu shot, Connecticut's Attorney General wants to make sure you're not being over-charged for it.

Most drug makers have switched to producing the swine flu vaccine, putting the season flu vaccine in short supply.

Richard Blumenthal says he's investigating 13 makers and distributors of flu vaccine regarding possible price fixing and preferential treatment for big retailers.

He's asking them to provide supply levels and prices and to explain their distribution methods and criteria.

“I will fight to assure no one makes a killing off the seasonal flu vaccine shortage -- potentially endangering seniors and the sick -- and everyone who needs a shot gets one,” said Attorney General Richard Blumenthal.

Blumenthal says his office has received complaints that some vaccines are being sold for as much as $100 a dose.

Other allegations include distributors and manufacturers reneging on price agreements by demanding new, higher prices for already-ordered doses, and distributors buying back vaccine for resale at inflated prices.

The Attorney General has given the companies until November 15 to provide the requested information.
