Principal in Cheating Investigation Resigned

Hearings for the Waterbury elementary school principal were to begin this week.

A Waterbury elementary school principal accused of master-minding an alleged cheating scandal at the school has resigned.

Maria Moulthrop, the principal of Hopeville Elementary, and Margaret Perugini were accused of orchestrating a plan to coach students to change wrong answers on the mastery test last spring.

Perugini retired and hearings were scheduled to begin this week to determine whether Moulthrop should be fired.

Both deny the allegations.
