Giant Pumpkin Breaks State Record

The new Connecticut record is now 1766.5 lbs. for a pumpkin.

Connecticut has a new record-breaking pumpkin.

Matt DeBacco, of Rocky Hill, grew the pumpkin, which weighed in at 1,766.5 lbs. at the Durham Fair Wednesday night.

It's the heaviest pumpkin ever grown in Connecticut. DeBacco's gourd shatters the old record, a 1,487.5-pound pumpkin that was weighed in Durham in 2011.

The heaviest pumpkin in the world was 1,818 lbs., according to the Guinness Book of World Records. That pumpkin was weighed in Canada in 2011.

DeBacco's pumpkin will be on display at the Durham Fair through Sunday.
