The state Department of Transportation will begin opening the northbound side of the new Q Bridge along Interstate 95 in New Haven and this is expected to cause some major delays in the area on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday morning, there will be a ceremony to open the northbound side of the new five-lane Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge.

Traffic will be shifted onto the bridge’s new northbound lanes at 8 p.m. on Friday until 6 a.m. on Monday, June 25.

Expect delays around the bridge throughout this weekend, plan ahead and consider using alternate routes.

Beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, only one lane of I-95 northbound will be available between Long Wharf Drive, Exit 46, and Woodward Avenue, Exit 50, and only one lane will be available on the I-91 northbound ramp from Exit 48 until 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 23.

The Long Wharf Drive on-ramp to I-95 North will be closed until 8 a.m. on Saturday.

Drivers who want to access I-95 North, I-91 North, or Route 34 West from Long Wharf Drive will be detoured on local roads.

The I-95 North off-ramp to Woodward Avenue will be closed until 8 a.m. on Saturday. Traffic will be detoured to Woodward Avenue via South Frontage Road (Exit 51), North Frontage Road, and Forbes Avenue/ US Route 1.

Beginning Friday, the I-91 South ramp traffic for I-95 North will be merging with a single lane of I-95 North from 8 p.m. on Friday to 8 a.m. on Saturday and will be merging with two lanes of I-95 North from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Expect significant delays accessing I-95 NB.

The I-91 South ramp to I-95 North will be closed at 6 p.m. on Saturday until 10 a.m. on Sunday.

Traffic will be detoured to I-95 South Exit 45 (Route 10, Ella Grasso Blvd), where motorists will be directed back onto I-95 North. After the I-91 South ramp reopens, traffic flow may be restricted due to continued lane closures on I-95 North until 6 a.m. on Monday.

I-91 South will not have access to Woodward Avenue/Port Area (Exit 50) from 8 p.m. on Friday until after 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The Wooster Street on-ramp to I-95 North will be closed from 2 p.m. on Saturday until 10 a.m. on Sunday.

Traffic will be detoured to I-95 North via Franklin Street, Chapel Street, East Street, Forbes Avenue and Frontage Road.

Intermittent 10-minute traffic stoppages will occur on the Route 34 Eastbound ramp to I-95 North from 8 p.m. on Friday until 8 a.m. on Saturday.
