A car accident just outside Quinnipiac University's Mount Carmel campus in Hamden forced the school to cancel morning classes.
The one-vehicle crash on New Road knocked out power to the campus around 7 a.m., according to officials from Quinnipiac.
The driver, a 56-year-old Woodbury resident, suffered a medical condition, lost consciousness and struck a utility pole on New Road, according to police. The man was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital. His condition is not known.
Power was restored to the campus at 9:20 a.m. A portion of New Road from Mount Carmel Avenue to the New Road entrance to the campus will remain closed while crews from United Illuminating and Southern Connecticut Gas Company fix the damaged utility pole and a gas line.
Classes will resume at 2 p.m., according to Quinnipiac officials. Drivers can access the campus through the New Road entrance by driving north from Ives Street.
The North Haven campus is operating normally.
