Quinnipiac Student Cleared of Threat Allegations

Student told school officials it was a Halloween prank.

Quinnipiac University has cleared a student accused of making a racial threat on campus in 2008.

Three students, including Courtney Stellwag, were arrested in 2008 amid several reports of racially motivated threats of physical harm against minority students.

But, the prank call Stellwag participated in on Oct. 28, 2008 was not racially motivated and she never intended it as a threat, the school found after an investigation.

On Dec. 7, 2011, the vice president and dean of students sent Stellway this letter.

In it, is says Stellwag told campus officials that she randomly dialed numbers and left the message "you will die in seven days."

It is a quote from the movie "The Ring" and Stellwag expected that other students would know it was meant as a Halloween joke and was not a threat, according to the letter university officials sent Stellwag.

"The University telephone records supported your assertion that the call was randomly dialed and the investigation revealed that the call was not racially motivated. Based on the information gathered, we understand that you intended it only as a joke," the letter states.

The school said it would accept an application for Stellwag to reapply.

Stellwag is enrolled at a different school and "doing very well as she prepares for a career as a physicians’ assistant," her attorneys said.

The school had no additional statements.

“The university does not comment on lawsuits,” Lynn Bushnell, vice president for public affairs.
