Rabid Cat Bites Person in Plainfield

Police in Plainfield are advising residents to avoid contact with stray animals after a rabid cat bit a person on Tuesday.

Officers responded to North Chestnut Street around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday after receiving reports that a badly injured cat bit a person.

The cat was then captured, euthanized and sent to the state lab, where tests confirmed the cat had rabies.

The resident who was bitten suffered minor injuries and is receiving immunizations.

Police urge residents to avoid contact with stray animals and wildlife and not leave food outside for pets.
