Ramp on I-395 North in Norwich Closed Ramp

The driver of a tractor-trailer that went down an embankment off Interstate 395 North in Norwich was taken to the hospital and the exit 13B ramp was closed for several hours.

A 25-year-old Florida man was trying to pull off the highway when the truck went down an embankment and hit several trees, according to a news release from police.

The driver, who state police identified as Timur Umarov, 25, of Orlando, was trapped in the truck and members of the Yantic and East Great Plains fire departments freed him from the vehicle.

Umarov's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening and he was transported to Backus Hospital to be treated.

Police said the exit, formerly called exit 81W to Route 2 West, would be closed until at least 11:30 a.m.

Drivers can turn around at exit 14.
