Rare Puppets Stolen

The puppets are worth more than $10,000.

The search is on for some missing puppets in New Britain.

These aren't any ordinary puppets. They are specially made, and are worth more than $10,000.

The puppets were stolen from a shed on Landers Ave. Sunday night. They belong to Daniel and Dawn Thomacos, who used the unusual puppets in an annual haunted house, as well as in commercials, and even performed at The Bushnell in Hartford. Many of them were also used in a cable television show called "The Not So Late Night Show."

A neighbor who lives near the Thomacos witnessed the burglary around 11:30 p.m. Sunday. He said two people on bikes break into the shed, and pass the puppets over a fence to two others, who then loaded the puppets onto a car. Speakers and some stage lights were also taken.

The puppets were handmade and are considered rare art. The man who made them now has a debilitating disease, and is no longer able to create the creatures, according to Dawn Thomacos.

Police are asking anyone with information to call them at 860-826-3039 or 860-826-3048.
