3 Winning Tickets Sold

Lottery officials say there was one $250,000 winner in Connecticut.

There were three winning tickets sold for the record $640 Mega Millions jackpot Friday night.

Unfortunately for Connecticut hopefuls, the tickets were sold in Maryland, Kansas and Illinois.

However, lottery officials said one winner in Connecticut had five numbers match. That person has  won more than $250,000.

The winning numbers are 2-4-23-38-46 and the Mega ball is 23.

There is no word on who holds the winning jackpot tickets.

The tickets were selling fast at Mercury Fuel in Newington on Friday and at convenience stores across the country.

“Who knows, it might be the lucky ticket?” lottery player Dan Gaither said.

Thousands in Connecticut have gotten in line and hoped to get the winning ticket.

“It's a lot of money. I can’t imagine what I would do with it, but I’m pretty sure I could find something,” Gaither added.

Local lottery players already had a plan to spend the winnings.

“Maybe a house, a new car, a boat,” said Leandro Gomes.

Tickets were in such high demand that stores could barely keep up.

“We had a customer that bought 200 tickets -- just one customer, so you can imagine how busy we've been,” said Sam Hamid at Mercury Fuel.

The odds of buying a winning ticket were one in 176 million. You would have a better chance of becoming the country’s president or getting struck by lightning.

“I figured, hey it’s a chance, it’s a longshot, but you can’t win if you don’t play,” said Dan Gaither.

“I’m in college and I need money very badly I figured I could try it's only a dollar,” Mary Bramucci said.
