Remains Stolen From Stratford Cemetery

Police are investigating the theft of remains of nearly 20 people from a cemetery in Stratford.

The caretaker at Union Cemetery discovered the crime around 8 a.m. on Thursday, according to police.

A mausoleum had been broken open and 18 urns holding cremated remains were stolen, police said.

"It's just disgusting. My mother and my grandmother are gone, along with 16 others," Glenn Everlith said.

The urns are made of bronze, brass, other metals, glass and fiberglass.

Police said someone used a large hammer to break the seal on the mausoleum and damaged approximately 20 vaults that were holding the urns.

So far there are no suspects.
