A group trip to the lake turned tragic in Oxford when a New Jersey man drowned.

The body of Vignesh Viswanathan, 26, was found in Lake Zora off Jackson Cove Town Park on Saturday night.

Viswanathan, of Edison, from New Jersey was reported missing around 6:30 p.m., police said.

Investigators said the victim was with a youth group of about 30 people when he went missing in the water.

They had hiked from Kettletown State Park in Southbury to Jackson Cove.

The Department of Energy and Environment Protection along with multiple dive teams assisted State Police and the Oxford Fire Department with the search.

The man's body was retrieved two hours later.

State Police said no foul play was involved.
