Route 1 Reopens After Greenwich Water Main Break

Route 1 (Post Road) in Greenwich has reopened after being partially closed most of Sunday after a water main break Saturday night.

The eastbound side of Route 1 reopened earlier in the day to one lane of traffic from Indian Field Road. Route 1 was closed on the westbound side at Strickland Road for most of the day, but it has reopened..

As of 2:04 p.m. Sunday, Connecticut Department of Transportation crews were still on scene "evaluating the road repair requirements," according to Greenwich Police Lt. Kraig Gray. They were determining whether to make repairs in accordance with temporary or permanent standards given the area was already rescheduled for resurfacing Monday morning.

Drivers were able to detour onto Sound Shore Drive or Interstate 95 near the Cos Cob train station to get around it.
