Driver Dies After Crash in North Branford

Route 22 is closed in North Branford following a crash.

A driver has died after crashing on Route 22 in North Branford Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

The accident happened around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday on Route 22/Forest Road between Mill Road and Neubigs Way, police said.

According to the state Department of Transportation, a passenger vehicle and dump truck were involved.

Police said fire officials extricated the driver of the passenger car, who was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital and pronounced dead. That person has not been identified.

No one else was injured in the crash, police said.

The road was closed for several hours between Augur Road and Mill Road, according to police

Authorities are investigating to determine the cause of the crash.
