Student Struck in Farmington Has Died

Mateusz Maciulewski was struck near Farm Glen Boulevard Monday afternoon.

A Farmington High School student has died after being struck by a car on Route 4 in Farmington on Monday.

Mateusz Maciulewski, 14, was struck by a vehicle after getting off a CT Transit bus at Farm Glen Boulevard, police said.

Farmington police said on Wednesday that the investigation is ongoing, but witnesses and evidence indicate that Maciulewski crossed into the path of an oncoming car while trying to cross Route 4.

The driver of the car that struck Maciulewski had a green traffic light and speed does not appear to
be a factor, police said.

Maciulewski was a member of the Farmington High School crew team, according to the principal, and would have been a sophomore in the fall.

Officials from Connecticut Children's Medical Center confirmed on Tuesday that Maciulewski has died.

Since Monday, people who knew Mateusz and even those who had never met him were tweeting with the hashtag #prayforMateusz.

A classmate of Maciulewski's posted on Facebook that he lit up the crew team with his smile.

Guidance counselors are at the high school on Tuesday and will be there Wednesday as well.

The road was shut down for more than three hours while police investigated.

Farmington police do not expect to file charges, according to a news release issued on Wednesday morning.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Farmington Police Department at 860-675-2400.
