Route 8 North in Shelton was closed on Thursday after a two-car crash that caused serious injuries, police said.
The driver of a Chevrolet Express was traveling southbound on Route 8 between exits 11 and 12 when he crossed the grassy median and struck the front end of a Dodge Grand Caravan at 10:03 a.m.
After striking the other car, the Chevrolet went down an embankment into a wooded area, state police said.
A passenger in the Dodge was transported to St. Vincent's Hospital for serious injuries, while the driver was brought to Bridgeport Hospital for minor injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet was also brought to Bridgeport Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The case is being investigated.
