Police Search Park for Bianca Lebron's Remains

Eight years have passed since 10-year-old Bianca Lebron went missing from outside a Bridgeport school. She’s never been heard from since and her body has yet to be found. But over the weekend, the search continued to solve the mystery.

On Saturday, police officers met at the edge of Black Rock Harbor to follow through on a tip they received that the girl’s body might be buried in Seaside Park, the Connecticut Post reports.

State and local police dug up large holes in the ground on one side of the park along the shoreline facing Seabright Avenue. On the other side of the park, volunteers were getting ready setting up for Gathering of the Vibes.

"We had some information on a prior crime and did some digging as part of an evidence recovery," police Capt. James Viadero told the newspaper. He said the excavation took place in conjunction with State Police. He would not comment further.

It was back on Nov. 7, 2001 when Lebron disappeared. She was about to start her day at Elias Howe Elementary on Clinton Avenue when she got into a beat up older model tan van. Police said the fifth-grader was waiting with other students to enter school that morning when she told classmates she was leaving to accompany an "uncle" on a shopping trip.

The girl's disappearance sparked a nationwide search and was the subject of several television shows. Despite the offer of a $60,000 reward, no substantial evidence has turned up.
