    Doug Greene, NBC Connecticut
A search and rescue mission is underway in Branford.

Police identified the man found dead in the waters off Branford Wednesday.

Officers got a 911 call from a woman on Clam Island just after 10 a.m. reporting her husband was missing from the island.

Clam Island is located just off Pawson Park shoreline in the Indian Neck section of Branford.

Boats from Branford Police, Branford Fire Department, East Haven Fire Department, Guilford Fire Department and the U.S. Coast Guard helped in the search for Mitchell Morse, 67, of Branford and Hamden.

Crews found Morse's body in the water near Owenego Inn Beach Club about 30 minutes later.

Police are investigating Morse's exact cause of death. His body was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
