Sen. Richard Blumenthal is one of the newest members of Congress, but he's also one of the wealthiest.

Roll Call, a newspaper that focuses on Capitol Hill has run its annual list of the 50 Richest Members of Congress and Connecticut's junior Senator comes in at number 8 on the list.

Sen. Blumenthal is worth a whopping $52.93 million, according to Roll Call.  Number 1 on the list? Texas Republican U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul. He's worth a staggering $294.21 million.

The paper has been putting the list together for the past 21 years. To create the list, Roll Call adds up the minimum value of the total assets each lawmaker reports on the financial disclosure forms. Then, they subtracted from that the lawmakers financial liabilities.

And don't think that Sen. Blumenthal is the only Connecticut member to crack the top 50.  U.S. Rep. Rosa Delauro, (D-3rd District) sneaks into the last spot at $6 million. That's actually a drop for DeLauro, who was number 49 last year.
