A 1-year-old toddler who was seriously injured when he was ejected from the car that he was traveling in, after that vehicle collided with an SUV on Avon Mountain Saturday, has been released from the hospital.
Connecticut Children's Medical Center spokesperson Chris Boyle said that the 1-year-old was released from CCMC just before noon on Sunday.
The child had injured its head after it was ejected from the car. Police say they discovered the toddler in the woods by the side of the road, where he was conscious and crying.
He was transported to Hartford Hospital along with his 64-year-old grandmother Tatyana Pikalova who sustain a pelvic injury. Piklova is listed in stable condition according to hospital officials.
Police say Pikalova was traveling eastbound on Route 10 around 12:20 p.m. when her vehicle veered into oncoming traffic and collided with an SUV driven by Laura Hammond, 48, West Hartford.
Hammond was transported to St. Francis Hospital and later released.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Police say it is too early to tell if weather may have been a factor.
Avon Mountain was closed for almost five hours in both directions from Route 10 to Mountain Road. It reopened just before 5:30 p.m.
