Woman Killed, 4 Injured in Crash on Route 4 in Burlington

A woman was killed and four people were injured in a crash on Route 4 Burlington, near the Farmington line, on Thursday afternoon.

State police said Eileen Shannon, 57, of Torrington, was driving a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on Route 4 just before 1:30 p.m. when she crossed over into the westbound side of the street and collided with a commercial vehicle that was carrying some kind of refuse. 

Shannon was pronounced dead at the scene and three passengers in her vehicle, Jessica Vandebogart, 37, of Winsted, Pamela Brown, 37, also of Winsted, and Jaxon Doyle, 4, of Winsted, were taken to local hospitals.

Vandebogart was brought to St. Francis Hospital, while Brown was brought to Hartford Hospital and Doyle was brought to Connecticut Children's Medical Center.

One passenger of the truck, Jared Kopec, 28, of East Haddam, was also injured and he was transported to Hartford Hospital. 

Police are investigating.
