Serious Crash in Burlington Near High School

Three people were taken to hospitals.

Three people suffered injuries in a three-car crash in front of Lewis Mills High School in Burlington on Monday morning that left pieces of the vehicles scattered across the road.

John Bonville, 60, of Harwinton, was driving a 2004 Buick Rendezvous westbound on Route 4 near Lyons Road when his vehicle crossed into the eastbound side of the road and hit a 2011 Ford Focus, head-on, police said.

Rachel Vienneau, 25, of Harwinton, was driving the Ford, police said, and Nicole Bastlaanse-Fritch, 34, was driving a Honda Civic that then struck Vienneau's car.

Vienneau had to be extricated from her car and she and Bonville were air-lifted to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

An ambulance brought Bastlaanse-Fritch to St. Francis Hospital.

State police are investigating and looking into whether speed was a factor in the crash.

The high school is located at 24 Lyons Road and the road was closed as emergency crews responded.
