A 58-year-old construction worker was killed at Quinnipiac University on Friday morning after being struck by a forklift, according to Hamden Fire officials.

A forklift struck the worker while the man was walking up an incline near a residence hall and student center. He was rushed to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The forklift operator was backing up when it happened, police said.

A school spokesman initially indicated he did not believe the injures were life threatening but fire officials said his injuries were serious. The man, an employee of O&G Industries, subsequently died as a result of the incident.

His name has not been released because police are reaching out to his family.

Hamden Police and Fire responded to 515 Sherman Avenue after getting the call at 9:16 a.m.
OSHA is investigating.
