Services Today for Teen Killed in Fall From Cliff

Funeral services will be held on Thursday for an 18-year-old Hamden man who died after falling 200 feet from a cliff at Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden on Sunday afternoon

Tobias Engel, 18, of Hamden, was hiking alone on the tower trail,according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

An ambulance transported Engel to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Sunday night.

Engel was a student at Hamden High School.

He was the son of Leonard Engel, an English professor at Quinnipiac University, and Moira McCloskey. He was the brother of Tessa Engel of Hamden, Melissa Shaw (John) of Guilford, Kristin Muratori of Clinton, Thomas Engel of Bedford, Massachusetts, and Leonard Engel, Jr. of Holliston, Massachusetts.

Sisk Brothers Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m in St. Joan of Arc Church.
