Shelter in Place Lifted After Montville Gas Main Break

A shelter in place has been lifted from the area where water company personnel hit a gas main in Montville, according to dispatchers.

Crews from Southeastern Water company were working in the area of 29 Texas Drive just after 2:30 p.m. when they struck a 1- to 2-inch gas main in the area, according to dispatchers.

Residents of the nearby Montville neighborhood were asked to stay in their homes and children who live on the affected streets were being kept late at Oakdale Elementary School as crews responded.

Eversource shut the gas off at 4 p.m. and has crews on scene making repairs.

The gas leak is impacting residents of Texas Drive, Florida Drive, Rhode Island Drive and New York Road.

Eversource and the fire marshal responded.

No injuries are reported.

Eversource predicts repairs will take a few hours.
