The Board of Education held a rare weekend meeting on Sunday, during which they decided to place Polansky on leave and directed their lawyer to hire an independent agency to investigate the complaints.
The meeting was held the day before the new board takes office on Monday night.
The board also named Assistant Superintendent Michael Cummings as interim superintendent. Polansky did not attend the meeting.
"This is a personnel matter and due to the fact there is an investigation, we are prevented from making any additional statements at this time," Michael Cummings, interim superintendent for the district, said.
No criminal charges have been filed against Polansky, who was hired in March 2007. Polanksy has not returned phone calls from NBC Connecticut.
