Shelton Police are warning residents to lock their doors and windows after a recent string of burglaries.

Police have received eight complaints about residential burglaries or attempted daytime burglaries since Sept. 1, according to authorities. Most of the burglaries appear to have taken place between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., police said.

There have also been 11 reports of commercial nighttime burglaries since the beginning of September.

Police want residents to report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods immediately. According to police, the suspicious activity may include unfamiliar people walking in the neighborhood, or an unfamiliar person knocking on a door or ringing a doorbell, and when the homeowner answers, the person asks for a fictitious name or address.

Shelton Police are consulting other area police departments who have investigated similar crimes in recent weeks.
