Shooter on Loose in New Milford

State and New Milford police are searching for a shooter after a victim was found walking on Route 7.

New Milford Police are searching for a man who they consider armed and dangerous after a shooting  in New Milford.
 
New Milford Police received a call around 1 a.m. reporting a man who had been shot walking on Route 7.

 
The victim, who was identified by friends as a 29-year-old man, was transported to Danbury Hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
 
His cousin said the victim was shot in the shoulder by a .22-caliber gun, but is in good condition.
 
New Milford Police, with assistance from State Police, are searching the area for the shooter.
 
Police have blocked of a portion of Route 7 and have evacuated two area motels, including the Rocky River Motel, as a precaution.
 
A helicopter from New York State Police is also assisting in the search and police said they believe the shooter has left the area.
 
Police said they do not have a description of the shooter.
