More East Haven athletes are in trouble after they were caught at a party where alcohol was present.

East Haven Football didn’t have a lot to cheer about Friday night after losing the game and 2 of their own.  Two starters were sidelined for the season this week after violating the school’s alcohol policy again.

“Years from now they are going to realize what they lost,” said Coach Greg Volpe.

Volpe says it’s been a tough year on and off the field.  This past week, 7 East Haven athletes were suspended for attending a Halloween party with alcohol.  Two of those athletes are repeat offenders who are both on the football team and just recently reinstated.

“I’m disappointed, frustrated, all of the above.  It’s tough to hear,” said Volpe.

The latest suspensions follow the reinstatements in late September of 4 football players and 2 cheerleaders who were suspended for the season after being ticketed at a September 11th house party where alcohol was present.  Those suspensions were dropped to 2 games after the school board adopted a clearer policy.

“I believe those 2 kids should be off the team now.  If that’s what they want to do, they want to drink, that’s their business,” said Bob Vance of East Haven.

Friday night’s losses on the football team though seemed more disappointing than the loss on the field.

“They’re going to have to learn you don’t often get second chances,” said Volpe.
