Missing West Haven Infant Found Safe

A 1-month–old girl from West Haven who was at the center of a Silver Alert issued early this morning has been found and she is safe.

Aaliyah Barrett had last been seen with her father, Vaughn Barrett, 24, around noon in Orange. They were found locally and no criminal charges will be filed, police said.

"It was just a big misunderstanding," said Jennifer Ivey, the baby's mother.

Police said they had last been seen leaving the Subway restaurant at 116 Boston Post Road.

Aaliyah was in a stroller and wearing a pink and white pajama suit and a white snowsuit and her father was reportedly going to take the bus to a store, to pick up some items and do errands, then return home, but did not, police said.

He has disappeared in the past and returned days later with no explanation, but never with the couple’s child, police said.

Barrett returned home this morning with the baby.

"He didn't say anything. He just came in the house, changed her diaper, fed her, by that time everybody was here and that was it," Ivey said.  "It really doesn't matter where he took her, as long as I know that she's home, she's safe and she's healthy," Ivey said.

Police and social service agencies will be working to determine whether assistance can be provided to the family.
