Police said Heather Smith ran off into the woods shortly after crashing her car into a tree on Tree Top Road in Ellington on Sunday.

Police said Heather Smith ran off into the woods shortly after crashing her car into a tree on Tree Top Road in Ellington on Sunday.

Police have found the 18-year-old from Ellington who disappeared Sunday after crashing into a tree near Tree Top Road.

Police say they located Heather R. Smith in the woods near Route 140 and Webster Road. She is being transported to the hospital.

Authorities said that before this morning, Heather R. Smith was last seen in Ellington on Sunday and wandered away after a car crashed into a tree near Tree Top Road at around 10:30 a.m.

Responders from several area towns and K-9 dogs were being used in the immediate area. The State Police helicopter was also called in to assist in the search.

Heather is about 5-feet-2-inches tall and weighs 90 pounds. She has brown hair and hazel eyes.

She was last seen wearing a pink Aeropostale shirt with blue and green lettering and black capri-style leggings with the word "pink" on the rear.
