Simsbury police have increased patrols in the center of town after a 54-year-old insurance executive was stabbed in the chest and killed last week.
Melissa Millan, of Simsbury, was found lying on Iron Horse Boulevard, between Phelps Lane and Pent Road around 8 p.m. on Thursday, police said. An ambulance rushed her to Saint Francis Hospital, where she died a short time later.
Millan's death has been ruled a homicide, the first in town since a murder-suicide in 2012.
The crime scene was in the center of the suburban community, near a highly frequented bike trail, several restaurants and the Performing Arts Center at Simsbury Meadows and police said it's not clear if the stabbing was random.
As the investigation continues, Simsbury Police Department will increase patrols and police presence on Iron Horse Boulevard "for an undetermined amount of time."

Police said they have not found the weapon , nor have they identified a suspect, but they said they have leads.
Police initially considered the possibility that Millan was injured in a hit-and-run, but found no evidence to prove that theory.
There will be a vigil for Millan on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. near the area where she was found injured on Iron Horse Boulevard.
