Police have identified the man and woman found shot to death in a Simsbury apartment complex.

Elizabeth Day, 24 died of multiple gunshot wounds and her death has been ruled homicide, caused by Michael Wawrzyniak, according to police.  Wawrzyniak died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A dispatcher received a 911 call at 8:25 p.m. from Day, who said her boyfriend was holding a gun at her and threatening to shoot and kill her, police said. While they were on the phone, the dispatcher heard several gunshots.

Police said they arrived at apartment 2A2 of the Meadows housing complex at 51 Hopmeadow Street within 30 seconds, assembled and tried to contact the people inside.

They were unsuccessful, but heard a crying baby inside and forced their way into the apartment, police said.

Officers found Day and Wawrzyniak dead inside.  A 1-year-old child was also found inside the home and was not injured.

The child is in the custody of the state Department of Children and Families, according to police.

Police said there was no prior history of responding to this residence.
