Estimates for Restoring Power

Power outages in the state are now around 165,000 as hundreds of utility crews work to fix the damage from Tropical Storm Irene, which left 830,000 customers in the dark last weekend.

Connecticut Light & Power Co. has about 144,818 outages on Friday morning from a peak of 672,000 after the storm, but 17 percent of CL&P customers don't have power.

The company’s Web site now offers estimated restoration time for some areas by work zones. As of Thursday morning, estimates did not include work areas in the Eastern part of the state or the shoreline, which are the areas where most people are out of power, but those estimates were up as of Thursday afternoon.

In Sterling, 99 percent of people still have no power. The percentages for several eastern communities are still over 50 percent. In the western part of the state, almost half of Ridgefield, New Canaan, Weston and Redding have no power.

The last work zone on the list is the Newtown area, which includes Ridgefield, a town where 60 percent of people have no power; Newtown, which has 56 percent of people with no power; Danbury, where the mayor has blasted CL&P; and Brookfield, where 23 percent of people have no power.
