A proposal for a $3.1 million athletic field in Oxford has some town residents fired up.

A public meeting was held Monday night at the Stephen B. Church Memorial Town Hall; many shared their thoughts on the track and football field, that would be built on Oxford High School’s campus.

One woman told NBC Connecticut she’s against the proposed project, because the money could be used to finance services for the entire town, instead of just the school.

“We don’t have any garbage pick-up [service], we don’t have a dump…It would only benefit the school,” said Donna Stone.

The boards of finance and selectmen will meet separately on Tuesday to discuss the athletic field.

The project would be financed through a bond.
