Some Retailers Bucking the Early Thanksgiving Hours Trend

Black Friday is no longer just a day of great sales, for some stores, the door busters have already begun! While some people love the bargains, others believe it takes away from the holidays.

"I prefer to stay home with family, at some point you'll catch the sales," Damian Tucker said.

While dozens of stores will be open on the holiday, one recreation gear retailer is proving that it's not about the bargains, instead, they want people to celebrate the holiday with some fresh air.

"I saw that REI was encouraging everybody to take a walk, go enjoy the outdoors, go to national parks, that seems like a really great idea," Shana Goldin-Perschbacher.

The popular outdoor equipment company is inspiring people to use the hashtag #OptOutside.

"REI believes that being outside makes our lives better. That's why this Black Friday, we're closing all 143 of our stores and paying our employees to head outside," the company posted on its website.

Other retailers closing their doors for Thanksgiving include:

Nordstrom
DSW
Costco
TJ Maxx

But of course, there are still millions of people who will face the crowds for the holiday bargains.

"It can be fun if you you know go with someone like my sister. We make it fun and we grab our coffees and we find the deals", explains Melissa Perez who has been a Black Friday shopper in the past.
