A beloved Somers High School lacrosse player and cross-country star died on Thursday from injuries he sustained in a car crash in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts.

Nick Coleman, 17, of Somers, was driving down Prospect Street in East Longmeadow on Wednesday night when he hit a tree, according to East Longmeadow police.

A resident discovered the crash scene, found Coleman severely injured and called police. Paramedics rushed Coleman to Baystate Medical Center, where he died the next day.

Students at Somers High School are honoring Coleman on Friday.

A Facebook page, Remembering Nick Coleman, has been created and students posted that they will be dressing up in his honor for school today today.

A special remembrance ceremony and candlelight vigil is expected to be held as well.

East Longmeadow Police said speed might have played a factor in the crash.

Police are investigating.
