Town of Winchester
Something lurks in Highland Lake.
A giant piece of ice covered in debris floated to the surface of Highland Lake in Winsted, and just might cause problems for those looking to enjoy all the fun the lake has to offer as the weather warms up.
Every few years, the town does what is known as a "deep draw," a procedure to rid the lake of weeds and allow residents to care for their docks.
This year, the draw dislodged the frozen mass of rocks, boulders and logs that collect at the bottom of the lake, bringing it to the surface.
For now, town officials say all they can do is wait for the giant bog to thaw out and the debris to fall back to the bottom of the lake.
In the meantime, the debris inside the mass can wreak havoc on docks, boats, water skiers and swimmers hoping to enjoy activities on the lake.
