Big Night for New Milford Prom Prince & Princess

Junior prom in New Milford was a special night for Marissa Perrault and Gregory Kenny.

Their classmates voted them the prom prince and princess on Saturday.

“Marissa could put a smile on your face no matter how sad or mad you are and Greg is the funniest fella out there. He can make you laugh till your stomach hurts. I love them both to death,” New Milford junior Katy Mendelsohn said in a statement.

Perrault and Kenny are very active at the high school. Both are Special Olympians – Perrault for bowling and Kenny for snow shoeing. Perrault is also on her school's dance team and belongs to the Best Buddies club. Kenny is on the New Milford High School football team, helps with the lacrosse program and is a blue belt at Northern Star Karate. In the community, he is also a Boy Scout in Troop 58.

To their families, the news was a testament to the supportive community in New Milford.

"They were just over-the-moon excited," Daisy Norlander, Class of 2015 adviser, said in a statement about the couple's reaction to being named prom prince and princess.

Kenny thought it was "cool," his family said. Perrault came home "beaming with joy," according to her mother, Heather, and told her parents it was "a dream come true."

New Milford junior Elly Renner emphasized the couple’s compassion. Classmate Kaitlyn O’Hara said she knew that she and Perrault would be “forever friends” from the moment they met.

“There are not many people in the world like Marissa. She’s someone I can turn to when my world’s crashing down and she will brighten my day. Marissa is someone I would call my sister,” O’Hara said in a statement. “She’s helped me, guided me, made me laugh, made me cry from laughing so hard, but most importantly made me feel special about myself. I wouldn’t trade our relationship for the world. I love you Marissa, thank-you for everything.”

New Milford senior Rachel Fugardi said that Perrault can make her laugh on her worst days and that Kenny “has so much love to give everyone.” Fellow junior Lucas Infererra joined his peers in highlighting Kenny’s humor, calling him a “good friend.”

“Greg’s great! He’s the guy everyone knows,” New Milford junior Michael Fitch said. “He always has a smile on his face and always has a high five for everyone.”
