Shoreline towns spent a good part of Thursday preparing just in case Hurricane Earl headed towards Connecticut.

In West Haven people like Al Posey say they are used to preparing for storms. He has been in the same house since he was 11 and has seen many storms come and go.

"I'm gonna flip over my lawn furniture and tie down my grill as soon as i get done cooking dinner," remarked Posey.

In Groton the emergency operations center has been preparing since the weekend for Earl. They will be working around the clock tomorrow.

"We intend on enacting our EOC here with the director, the town manager, and other team players, and we are just gonna be in here ready to coordinate any response," said Jeff Williams, the Deputy Emergency Response Coordinator.

Connecticut will begin to feel the impacts from Hurricane Earl Friday, but some were already taking steps to prepare for the storm Thursday.

In Bridgeport, the P.T. Barnum museum, which suffered extensive damage during a tornado in July, began boarding up windows Thursday morning. The storm's impacts were expected to be felt in the eastern part of the state, but the museum's director decided not to take chances.

Some ferry service out of New London will be suspended as Earl approaches New England.

The Block Island Express ferry canceled all Friday departures from New London. Cross Sound Ferry has canceled some service between New London and Orient Point, New York Friday. Departures from New London at 9:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. have been canceled, as well as service from Orient Point at 11:30 a.m., 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Cross Sound Ferry has also canceled Saturday service from New London at 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and departures from Orient Point at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

All high-speed Sea Jet service has also been suspended for Friday.
