State Police Arrest Willimantic Man After Lengthy Child Abuse Investigation

State Police arrested a Willimantic man Tuesday following a lengthy investigation into reports that he broke a child's arms while taking care of the boy, according to a news release.

John Heald, 27, of Willimantic, faces assault and risk of injury charges.

State Police launched a criminal investigation into the child's injuries on Dec. 27, 2013. On that day, Heald, who was taking care of the child, grabbed his arms to correct his behavior, breaking both arms, State Police said.

State Police have not released information on where the reported incident occurred, but said that they obtained a warrant at Danielson Superior Court.

State Police did not release information on the juvenile's age or the relationship between the child and the accused.

Heald is being held at the Troop K station in Colchester on a $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear at Danielson Superior Court on May 28.
