State police are stepping up security as the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks approaches.
An initiative called “Operation Iron Eagle” runs through the month of September and what is means for Connecticut residents is enhanced security at train stations, airports, ferry terminals, bus stations, stadiums and high-capacity crowd facilities, critical infrastructure locations, and other high-profile locations.
Security is being increased because of the state’s proximity to New York and other major cities, as well as the fact that several individual terrorists and groups linked to terror organizations have lived in planned, trained and implemented criminal acts from within Connecticut.
“There has been no specific threat to Connecticut but these patrols will be conducted by deploying specially-trained Troopers utilizing specialty equipment, EOD K-9 teams and federal and local Law Enforcement partners to numerous venues on a daily basis,” police said in a release.
